On Wednesday 18/9/2024 the Organizers plan an excursion by bus to the famous archaeological site of Delfi and the nearby village Arachova (with dinner). You are all invited to participate and enjoy some gems of Greece.
About Delfi
Ancient Greeks believed that Delphi was the Navel of the Earth, a place seen as a spiritual focal point for all Greeks; it included many sanctuaries and the most prestigious oracle in all of ancient Greece. This is where “Pythia”, the high priestess, uttered the divine advice of God Apollo to mortals who travelled from across the world to seek a prophecy. Delfi is now an extensive archaeological site and since 1938 a part of Parnassos National Park. The precinct is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in having had a great influence in the ancient world, as evidenced by the various monuments built there by most of the important ancient Greek city-states, demonstrating their unity. We will first visit the archaeological site by guided tour. Right next to the archaeological site is the Archaeological Museum. Take a hat with you!
About Arachova
Afterwards we will travel to Arachova for dinner. Arachova is a picturesque village and ski center, lying at the foot of Mount Parnassos. It is the most cosmopolitan winter destination in Greece. Its proximity to Athens and its breathtaking mountainous landscape are the strongest reason why. After our dinner we will take a short stroll in the centrer of the village.
