Overview

The nineteenth edition of the series "Selected Topics in Nuclear and Atomic Physics" will take place from October the 4th to October the 8th, 2024. Since 1999 we have moved the site of the meeting from Varenna, its  traditional site, to Fiera di Primiero, a small town in the Italian Dolomites. Thanks to the hospitality of the local authorities the meeting will be held at the Palazzo delle Miniere, an ancient medieval palace dating from the XV century.

Along the tradition of the previous meetings, the skeleton of the program will be formed by a series of  lectures on different subjects of general interest. For this year, the lecturers and the corresponding topics are:

  • Ronald F. Garcia Ruiz (MIT, USA):"Probing Electroweak Nuclear Properties with Atoms and Molecules"
  • Andreas Ekstrom  (Chalmers University, Sweden): "Bayesian Inference in Ab Initio Nuclear Theory"
  • Giuliano Giacalone (CERN, Switzerland): "Interfacing nuclear structure with high-energy nuclear collisions"
  • Antonio Moro (University of Seville, Spain): "Recent advances in the modeling of reactions with weakly-bound nuclei" -- TBC
  • Benjamin P. Kay (Argonne National Laboratories, USA): "Nuclear structure properties of exotic nuclei from an experimental perspective"

The regular lectures will be supplement, as in the previous occasions, by seminars of general interest. Expected speakers and seminar titles are:

  • Umberto Battino (University of Hull):"Short-lived Radioisotopes from Massive Stars and Type Ia Supernovae"
  • Andrea Raggio (JYFL): "Studies of radioactive ion beams at IGISOL via decay spectroscopy and laser spectroscopy techniques"
  • Live-Palm Kubushishi (University of Mainz):"Investigating core excitation in halo nuclei using halo-EFT"

A public lecture will be given by Prof. G.Peruzzi from the Dep. of Physics and Astronomy, University of Padova.

The meeting is organized under the auspices of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Padova and the INFN-Sezione di Padova. The initiative is supported by Dept. of Physics and Astronomy.
