From the Train Station

Bologna central station is a hub of the high-speed Italian train system, with several trains per hour to and from major cities like Milan and Rome, and a few direct trains to cities outside Italy. Trains are run by one of two companies "Trenitalia" and "Italo", tickets can be booked on their websites:

https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html
https://www.italotreno.it/en

Tickets of one company cannot be used to travel on trains of the other one. For changes of reservation (time, names, etc) within the same company please check the conditions of the tickets offered on the websites.

The school site is 20mins walk from the station. Alternatively, you can take a city bus. Line 36 departs from in front of the station (Piazza delle Medaglie d'Oro) and can take you to the physics department (via Irnerio, 46, Bologna). There are several bus stops just outside the central station, look at the numbers at the bus signs. Bus tikcets (2.00€) can be paid inside the bus via contactless payment with a credit/debit card or can be bought at "Tabaccherie" inside the station (these kinds of shops are marked with a T sign).

Taxis are also readily available outside the train station.

From the Airport

The fastest route from the G. Marconi Bologna Airport BLQ to the city center is the Marconi Express (MEX) monorail (https://www.marconiexpress.it/). It can be taken outside the airport (follow the directions from the arrival gate) ant it takes roughly 7mins to take you to the central train station at the cost of 12.80€. Tickets can be paid directly via contactless payment with a credit/debit card or bought at a vending machine right next to the MEX platform. The MEX runs from 5.40 AM to midnight.

Taxis or city buses (line 944) are also available. Bus tikcets (2.00€) can be paid inside the bus via contactless payment with a credit/debit card or can be bought inside the airport (e.g., at the Carrefour express shop).

Bike-sharing - RIDEMOVI app

The city of Bologna is flat and relatively small, so bikes can be a convenient way to move around. The company ridemovi allows to rent bikes, either electric or not, and leave them parked almost anywhere in the city. You will find many bikes parked around the city, single rides or other offers can be paid via the ridemovi app. Independently of ridemovi, most bike stores offer their own bike rental services. Check the website for more information (https://www.ridemovi.com/).

Car-sharing - ENJOY app

If you need a car to travel over long distance within the city of Bologna, you may consider taking advantage of the ENJOY car-sharing solution (https://enjoy.eni.com/en/bologna/home).

ENJOY car-sharing in Bologna offers on-demand access to vehicles via a mobile app. To access the service, you need to download the app, register, follow the instructions (this includes taking a picture of your driving license) and await approval. After signing up, you can locate nearby cars using the map on the app (vehicles are scattered throughout the city), unlock them with your smartphone, and freely drive across the streets of Bologna. You can access limited traffic zones for free and return the car to any designated parking spot (even those with blue stripes) within the service area. This may be convenient if your accommodation is distant from the school venue.
