The decay rate of a metastable vacuum in quantum field theory has the form A Exp[-B]. Computing B requires solving classical equations of motion and can be challenging. The calculation of A involves the quantum fluctuations and is even more challenging. I will discuss some recent work in which we made analytic progress in computing both B and A starting with the thin wall approximation, that corresponds to the configuration in which the absolute minimum of the potential is almost degenerate with the metastable vacuum.
