Description
DNA replication is arguably one of the most fundamental processes carried out by living cells. In this seminar, I will discuss how to infer the dynamics of DNA replication in bacteria. Our method combines ideas of non-equilibrium statistical physics with experiments based on deep sequencing. Our approach reveals that the DNA replication speed in bacteria displays periodic, regular variations. I will discuss possible causes of this phenomenon and outline future directions.
