Description
ABSTRACT

In the European facility at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (UK) there are different laser systems, covering a wide field of possible experiments. More in detail, three laser systems are working at the moment: Laser for Science/ULTRA (LSF), Vulcan Laser and Astra-Gemini. All these lasers have different characteristics, from the high repetition rate for biological studies in LSF to high energy/high intensity in Vulcan and Astra-Gemini. In these seminar will be presented an overview of these last two systems. Both of these lasers can deliver up to 1PW of peak power, making two of the most powerful lasers in the world. Meanwhile, a starting project is aiming to upgrade the Vulcan laser to increase the pick power up to 10PW. In this seminar will be presented an overview of these two system, describing the hardware and the different characteristics and capabilities. It will be also presented quickly the 10PW within the preliminary results of the front-end and the contrast.
