The primordial deuterium abundance is highly sensitive to the primordial baryon density and depends on the amount of relativistic particles permeating the early Universe. Although direct observations provide a primordial deuterium abundance with percent level accuracy, the BBN prediction is less precise because of the paucity of D(p,gamma)3He data at BBN energies. This deuterium burning process has been measured with unprecedented precision with the underground LUNA accelerator at LNGS. In this seminar the LUNA measurement is described and the consequences oncosmology and particle physics are discussed.
