We illustrate the peculiar properties of the Discrete Nonlinear Schrodinger Equation, where breather dynamics characterizes "negative temperature" states, which naturally appear also in out-of-equilibrium stationary conditions. In an equilibrium perspective these peculiar states are usually interpreted as an effect of ergodicity breaking: we discuss that they can be more properly understood in terms of inequivalence between statistical ensembles.
