Vector boson scattering (VBS) is a class of rare electroweak processes that generate final states of two gauge bosons and two jets (VVjj). At the LHC, VBS processes include gauge boson self-interactions and exchanges of the Higgs boson that cancels out divergences arising from longitudinally polarised vector bosons at high energy. VBS measurements thus serve as fundamental probes of the electroweak interactions. This seminar will discuss motivation for VBS measurements and will present ATLAS observations of VBS processes in WWjj, WZjj and ZZjj final states. It will highlight innovative experimental techniques necessary to distinguish VBS processes from more abundant background processes.
