Travel to Trieste

By plane

The Trieste airport (https://triesteairport.it) is well linked to international hubs in Munich and Rome and, especially in summer time, also offers several international connections by low-cost airlines. You can reach the city center either by train (see https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html and search for connections between “Trieste Airport” and “Trieste Centrale”) or by bus (you can download the timetable of Line 51 “extraurbano” by APT Gorizia from here https://www.aptgorizia.it/it/r13443?sNodeFragFilter=13808 ). The train and bus stations are located just next the air terminal and are connected by an elevated walkway. You can also book online a shuttle transfer from the airport to Trieste downtown here https://www.aptgorizia.it/it/r13443?sNodeFragFilter=13808 or here https://www.goopti.com/en/. Ask for direct drop off at your hotel.

An alternate possibility is to fly to the Venice International Airport (https://www.veneziaairport.it/en/) and then reach Trieste by train (about 1h and 50 min travel time)

By train

There are frequent train connections between Venice (“Venezia Mestre” station) and Trieste (“Trieste Centrale” station). Please consult the Italian Railways website here https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html

By private car

Trieste is fully connected to the Italian  “Autostrade” network. For local traffic information please consult (https://www.infoviaggiando.it). The easiest route to reach downtown Trieste is to take the “Trieste Sistiana” exit after the last toll booth and follow the scenic “Strada Costiera” to the city center. Vehicle traffic in Trieste is rarely heavy, despite the large number of scooters and motorcycles using the city streets, however please keep in mind that parking is extremely difficult in the city, and most parking spaces require a payment. If you travel by private car it is a good idea to look for a hotel offering parking options.

Taxis

Taxis are available throughout the city at designated spots (see https://radiotaxitrieste.it/radio-taxi-trieste/), where you can board them freely. Alternatively you phone in for a taxi and ask to be picked up at a given address. Should you elect to take a taxi from the airport to the city center make sure that you ask for the special tariff, which should not exceed 50 EUR.
