I will discuss recent developments in the duality between gauge fields and strings. More precisely, I will elaborate on some new aspects of N=2 and N=1 SCFTs in diverse dimensions and their holographic description. The presentation will be pedagogical and based on conceptual aspects, rather than technical ones.
