Description
The CUORE experiment (Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events), a ton-scale cryogenic bolometer array, recently began operation at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy. CUORE searches for the neutrino-less double-beta decay of 130Te, whose observation would establish lepton number violation, indicate that neutrinos are Majorana particles, and possibly provide information on the absolute neutrino mass scale. CUORE uses a cryogenic array of 988 TeO2 bolometers, cooled down to 15 mK, to target the 0vbb candidate isotope 130Te. We present the CUORE first results, from a total TeO2 exposure of 86.3 kg·yr and we discuss the CUORE sensitivity and future prospects.
