Welcome to the XIII edition of the International Geant4 School with a focus on medical physics applications and Geant4-DNA
We are delighted to invite you to the XIII edition of the International Geant4 School, with a special focus on the medical applications of nuclear physics. The event will take place at the Southern National Laboratory (LNS) of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) in Catania, Italy. This educational initiative is dedicated to exploring the advancements of the Geant4 simulation toolkit in the field of medical physics, with special lectures devoted to Geant4-DNA.
Catania, home to the LNS, is a renowned center for research in nuclear physics, hadron therapy, and radiobiology. The LNS, in collaboration with the University of Catania and regional healthcare institutions, has played a leading role in developing and applying accelerator technologies for medical purposes. The facility has made significant contributions to the advancement of proton and ion beam therapy, as well as to radiobiological research aimed at understanding radiation effects at the cellular and molecular levels. These achievements have fostered a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment, making Catania an ideal setting for this school.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn directly from leading experts in the field. Several speakers are core developers of Geant4 and Geant4-DNA and active members of their collaborations, offering unique insights into the capabilities and future directions of these powerful frameworks.
The core focus of this school is Geant4 and its applications in medical physics. Geant4 is a robust and widely used simulation toolkit for modelling the interaction of particles with matter, essential in areas such as radiation therapy, diagnostics, and imaging. Within this context, Geant4-DNA plays a critical role. It provides a detailed platform for simulating radiation interactions with biological matter at the molecular scale, enabling more accurate predictions of radiation-induced damage and supporting the development of advanced therapeutic strategies and improved patient care.
Join us in Catania for an in-depth learning experience that combines lectures, hands-on sessions, and collaborative discussions on Geant4 and Geant4-DNA. We aim to expand your knowledge and inspire your future work in this evolving field.
Stay tuned for updates on registration, schedule, and speaker details.
We look forward to welcoming you to the heart of medical physics in Catania!
