The construction of Advanced Virgo has been completed in 2016 and the interferometer has been stably locked in March 2017. After a few months of commissioning, on August 1st Advanced Virgo has started its first observing run, joining the two Advanced LIGO detectors.
The first scientific results of the run will be reported.
Morevoer, the recent history of the experiment will be outlined and the future perspectives discussed.
