Description
Imagine you want to send a message, so only your friend can understand it. What resources do you need for this, if you want to transmit the message publicly? How can one guarantee the security of your protocol? Could your friend verify that the message came from you at all? In this seminar, we will start from basic cryptographic primitives and notions of security (resistance to attacks), and then look at how quantum mechanics can (or can't) help us do classically impossible things (public key distribution, bit commitment, money, etc.).
