Description

In spite of their light mass, the motion of electrons is very slow in typical disordered media . The glassiness of electron transport is expected to originate from the on - site energy disorder and the randomness of unscreened Coulomb interactions . While there are many similarities between the electron glasses (which represents a prototype of “quantum glass” ) and spin/structural glasses, a lot of questions remain unsolved in the former probably due to the quantum effects. From the applied point of view , the slow motion of electrons hinders the application of disordered materials in e.g. optoelectronic devices. This problem cannot be re solved unless the suffic ient physical knowledge of the glassy nature of electrons is obtained. In this talk, I will first present my experience on the optoelectronic applications of disordered materials. Then I will discuss some important aspects as well as major open questions in the field of “electron glass ”.
