Description
The recent gravitational wave detection by the LIGO-VIRGO collaboration from two merging neutron stars, and the different multi-messanger electromagnetic counterparts will be briefly reviewed from the viewpoint of the nuclear physicist. In particular I will show the connections between these observations and neutron star modelling, as well as the constraint that such signal give to the nuclear equation of state. The present status of the nuclear equation of state will be also reviewed, and I will show that the most important nuclear inputs needed for the purpose of understanding the gravitational wave signal, can come from precision measurements of collective modes and relativistic heavy ion collisions.
