Description
I will discuss the effective field theory approach to physics beyond
the Standard Model. I will review the so-called SM EFT where the
Standard Model Lagrangian is extended by a complete set of dimension-6
operators. This framework approximates a large class of models beyond
the Standard Model where the new particles are much heavier than the
weak scale. The current constraints on the dimension-6 operators from
low-energy precision experiments and weak-scale electroweak precision
observables will be summarized. Finally, I will discuss what can be
learned about the SM EFT and new physics from the Higgs boson
measurements at the LHC.
