Description
Targets are used to radioisotopes for medicine via proton induced nuclear reactions.  For instance, the 18O(p,n)18F reaction on [18O]-H2Oproduces 18F.  The amount of F-18 produced is determined by proton beam current and irradiation time. The talk will describe the production targets for PET and SPECT radioisotopes and discuss the acceptable materials for targets.  A workbook containing the basic calculation tools will be distributed.  We have begun studying coating target surfaces to create chemically inert enclosures.  The discussion will present typical target geometries that are used in isotope production and are candidates for coating passivation.
