Description
Accurate predictions in perturbative QCD at colliders require the calculation of physical observables beyond leading order accuracy. However, the evaluation of higher-order radiative corrections to fully differential cross sections is hampered by the presence of infrared singularities in intermediate stages of the calculation, which prevent a straightforward implementation of numerical techniques. A possible way to consistently treat infrared singularities is through a so-called subtraction algorithm. In this talk, we describe a general local subtraction scheme for computing QCD cross sections at NNLO accuracy. We overview both the various conceptual issues that must be addressed and present some specific technical aspects of our subtraction algorithm.
