ABSTRACT

Following a brief review of possible orientations for new physics beyond the Standard Model, some of the prospects for discovering new physics at the LHC are discussed, particularly the searches for the Higgs boson and supersymmetry. Also mentioned are searches for excited quarks, microscopic black holes and string excitations, as well as aspects of heavy-ion collisions that may be discussed theoretically using ideas from the AdS/CFT correspondence motivated by string theory.
